Game Recap: Women's Hockey | | Emma Peterson, Sports Information Specialist

Yellowjackets Shutout LumberJills 3-0

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's hockey team hosted Northland College Friday night for the first game of the series this weekend. Three different Yellowjackets would find the back of the net on the way to a 3-0 win over the LumberJills.

After a scoreless first period, Emma Booth (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) would get the Yelllowjackets on the board in the final minute of the second. Starting the third period on the power play, Kaylin Garner (Anchorage, Alaska/Chugiak) would put one under the cross bar just 34 seconds in to give the 'Jackets a 2-0 lead. Halfway through the third period Kailey Swerhun (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Ignatius) would tip a shot from the side wall to extend lead to 3-0.

Game Notes
  • Cora Coz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) would be credited for her first assist of the night on Booth's goal as she would extend the play up the ice.
  • Brynn MacLean (Wilcox, Saskatchewan/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) and Coz would receive credit for Garner's power play goal.
  • Coz would have a two-point night, for her third multi-point game of the season.
  • Lucy Drougas (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) would make a breakout pass to Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) where she would then find Swerhun in front of the net.  Both be credited with an assist on Swerhun's goal.
  • The Yellowjackets have won three games in a row and have now clinched the third seed in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. (WIAC)
  • The Yellowjackets were 100% on the penalty kill.
  • Rose Beeman (Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School) would net her second shutout in the last three games.
  • Beeman would save all 32 saves she saw Friday night.
The Yellowjackets are back in action Saturday, Feb 17 for the second game of the series against Northland. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. at Wessman Arena.
