BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Last week the Yellowjacket men's tennis team opened up the 2024 portion of their season schedule, and this weekend it was the women's turn, as the Yellowjackets went south to take on Macalester College in their first matches of 2024.

It was a tough matchup for the Yellowjackets, and they ended up falling to the Scots, 8-1 at Lifetime Tennis South in Bloomington, Minn.

The Yellowjackets now stand at 3-2 on the season.

The lone match win for the Yellowjackets came at No. 6 singles, where
Brooke Wilfong (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) defeated Macalester's Talia Chait. Wilfong had to work for it in the opening set, getting the win 7-5, before cruising to a 6-2 win in the second set to get the sweep.

Wilfong also played in the tightest doubles match of the day, teaming up with
Kate Jonas (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) at No. 3 doubles, a match they lost 8-5 to Sedona Crosby and Savannah Haugen of the Scots.

Match Notes
- With her win Saturday, Wilfong improved to 4-2 on the year in singles action.
- Macalester swept the doubles matches Saturday, winning 8-1 at No. 1 and 8-2 at No. 2.
- Jessi Kukowski (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown) lost the opening set of her No. 3 singles match, 6-1 to Meg Ulrich, but fought hard in the second set before falling 6-4.
- Maya Haupt (Nuertingen, Baden-Wuerttemberg/Hoelderlin Gymnasium Nuertingen) played at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Yellowjackets Saturday. She teamed up with Kukowski at No. 1 doubles.
The Yellowjackets will be back in action next Saturday, February 10, when they take on Bethel at the Rogers Tennis Club in Rogers, Minn. The first serve is set for 3 p.m.
