DAVENPORT, Fla. – Day two of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational got underway for the Yellowjacket baseball team, facing off against former Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe UW-Stout. Both teams have competed against each other on a multitude of occasions, prior to UWS joining the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) in 2015.
Historically UW-Stout has been a team to rely on the long ball, and Monday they did just that. Jacoby Endreas hit two three-run home runs to right field in the early innings. The Yellowjackets scrapped a run in the fifth through eighth innings, but it wasn't enough as the Blue Devils defeated the 'Jackets 7-4.
Game Notes
- UW-Stout put up three runs in the first and three more in the third off starting pitcher Riley Harbaugh (Banks, Ore./Banks) and reliever Kevin Rahe (Princeton, Minn./Princeton). Endreas notched six RBIs in the contest.
- The Blue Devils scored their last run in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI double to right field.
- Despite the lack of offense from UWS, Noah Dagostino (Andover, Minn./Andover) led with four hits in five at bats. His single through the right side in the top of the first inning was the only hit until the top of the fifth, where he scored pinch-hitter Adam Swedahl (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) for the 'Jackets' first run.
- Trey Sybrant (Saint Michael, Minn./Saint Michael-Albertville Senior) drilled a double in the top of the sixth inning, scoring Isaac Fugere (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) who reached base on a walk.
- Nick Fredrikson (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Anthony Village) provided a spark for the Yellowjackets in the top of the seventh, as he tripled down the right field line and was brought in by Dagostino.
- The final run for UWS came from a Tanner Voight (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) double, scoring Mason McKellar (Nashotah, Wis./Arrowhead) who was previously plunked.
- The Yellowjackets used five different pitchers in Monday's game. Rahe gave way to freshmen Josh Pritchard (Surrey, British Columbia/Clayton Heights Secondary), Miles Kay (Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) and Zach Threde (Volo, Ill./Wauconda), all making their collegiate debut. Pritchard and Threde would collect their first collegiate strikeouts in the process.
The Yellowjackets' next opponent in the Sunshine State will be Beloit College. First pitch at Lake Myrtle Sports Park is scheduled for 8 a.m. CT in Auburndale, Fla.
