SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) revealed its two scholar-athlete leadership award winners in an announcement Wednesday, and
Nate Ohman (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) from the Yellowjacket men's track and field team received the honor.
This is the second time a Yellowjacket has won this award, as former Yellowjacket baseball player Dante Bender received the recognition in 2022. Additionally, Ohman was the Yellowjackets' nominee in 2023.
Each spring since 2008, the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) recognizes outstanding senior student-athletes who demonstrate a healthy balance by achieving excellence in academics, leadership, and service while participating in intercollegiate athletics, through the UMAC Scholar-Athlete Leadership Award.
Ohman, a native of Lake Nebagamon, Wis., is a five-year member of the men's track and field team. Two seasons ago he claimed the UMAC championship in the weight throw, and he repeated in 2024 while also claiming first in the shot put. As he transitioned to the outdoor season, Ohman continued his hot streak with three additional first place finishes in both the shot put and hammer throw.
Academically, Ohman maintains a 3.893 grade point average as a math education major. He is a constant on both the UMAC Academic All-Conference Team and UW-Superior's Dean's List.
He has been a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for five years, works as a strength and conditioning assistant in the athletics weight room at UW-Superior, and has served as a volunteer coach at the high school level and at various UW-Superior throws camps. His community service activities include Caroling for Cans, evaluating senior projects at Superior High School, volunteering with campus clean up, and bell ringing for the Salvation Army.
Ohman will be presented with a personalized plaque from the conference.
