MANKATO, Minn.—The Yellowjacket men's tennis teams traveled to Bethany Lutheran on Saturday for Upper Midwest Athletics Conference (UMAC) play where they would earn their second conference win of the season. The 'Jackets would secure their match 8-1. After Saturday's match the men are now 11-8 overall, and 2-0 in conference play.
Starting the day with doubles play, the Yellowjackets would sweep Bethany winning all three matches.
Davide Pelletti (Prado, Brazil) and
Sharan Kanugovi (Bangalore, Karnataka/New Baldwin International School) playing singles No. 1 would secure their match 8-3. At doubles No. 2
Yash Chhabra (Jaipur, Rajasthan/Sanskar School) and
Ren Kurachi (Yokohama, Japan/Yokosuka Gakuin) clinched their match 8-2.
For the Yellowjackets in singles play, No. 2 singles though No. 6 singles would secure their respected matches. Kanugovi would fall short in singles No.1 losing 6-3 and 6-4.
Match Notes
- At singles No.2 Pelletti would fight to earn his win over Joao Pugliese of Bethany after taking the first set in a tiebreaker and winning the second set 6-2.
- Jacob Zacharias (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) playing No.3 singles for the Yellowjackets, would be the only singles match to shut out his opponent to win his match.
- Brandon Chu (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) playing No.4 singles found himself on top after winning the two sets 6-0 and 6-1.
- For the Yellowjackets in the No. 5 singles spot, Bobby Powless (Flora, Ill./Flora) secured his win with a 6-0 and 6-1 over Samuel Liffengren.
The Yellowjackets are back in action Sunday, April 20 at the Yellowjacket Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Yellowjackets are set to face Crown College starting at 10 a.m. followed by Martin Luther at 1 p.m.
