Yellowjacket Women’s Tennis Sweep Bethany 9-0

MANKATO, Minn.- The Yellowjacket women's tennis team was on the road Saturday facing Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opponent, Bethany Lutheran. After last weekends win over Northwestern, the 'Jackets would continue their strong performance Saturday as they would shut out the Vikings 9-0. The Yellowjacket women now sit 12-8-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

Starting the day with doubles, the Yellowjackets would sweep No.1 through 3. Moving onto singles where the 'Jackets would complete the sweep there as well.

Match Notes
  • No. 1 doubles was the closest match for doubles today. Maya Haupt (Nuertingen, Baden-Wuerttemberg/Hoelderlin Gymnasium Nuertingen) and Andreina Tejada (Quito, Ecuador/Isaac Newton) would win the battle in a tiebreaker over Sailor Mohlenbrock and Emily Yehle 8-7 and tie breaker of 7-0.
  • Claudia Curtis (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) and Giulia Araujo De Barros (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Sabre) took their match at No.2 doubles 8-4.
  • Daylyn Drew (Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee) and Kate Jonas (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) playing No. 3 doubles for the Yellowjackets would earn a clean win 8-0.
  • Haupt with her second win of the day was another close match at No.1 singles after a tiebreaker in the first set. Haupt winning the first set after a tiebreaker of 7-3 and the second set 6-1.
  • Curtis, Araujo De Barros and Jonas would also secure themselves a second win of the day. Curtis at No.2 singles won her sets 6-1 and 6-2. Araujo De Barros winning No. 3 singles 6-1 and 6-1. Jonas won both of her set at No.5 singles 6-1.
  • Playing singles No.4 for the Yellowjackets was Jessi Kukowski (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown) earning herself the win over Jenna Spencer 6-2 and 6-1.
  • Brooke Wilfong (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) playing No.6 singles for the Yellowjackets would clinch the win over Madilyn Omar 6-0 and 6-1.
The Yellowjackets are back in action for more UMAC play on Sunday, April 21 at home at the Yellowjacket Outdoor Tennis Complex. They are set to face Crown at 10 a.m. and Martin Luther at 1 p.m.
