ROCHESTER, Minn.— The Yellowjacket women's tennis team traveled to Rochester Tennis Connection where they saw Cornell College Saturday afternoon. The Yellowjackets would secure the win 5-4 after coming off of over a three-week break after their spring break Florida trip.
With this win the Yellowjacket have won four in a row and are now 10-7 on the year.
Starting with doubles, the Yellowjackets had one pair to earn a win.
Kate Jonas (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) and
Daylyn Drew (Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee) at No.3 doubles would secure their match win 8-2.
Moving to singles play, the first to finish and secure the first win for the Yellowjackets was
Jessi Kukowski (Duluth, Minn./Hermantown) at No.5 singles. Kukowski would earn her win over Makayla Johnson 6-2, 6-0.
Match Notes
- This was the first time in program history that these two teams have met.
- At No.2 singles Maya Haupt (Nuertingen, Baden-Wuerttemberg/Hoelderlin Gymnasium Nuertingen) would sweep her Cornell opponent, Mac Graves, 6-0, 6-3.
- For the Yellowjackets, Giulia Araujo De Barros (Curitiba, Brazil/Colegio Sabre) would secure her win at No.4 singles over Isabella Wallin, 6-0, 6-2.
- Jonas would secure her second match of the day, this time at No.6 singles. She would take down Ashley Mink of Cornell, 6-4, 6-2. Jonas's win secured the match for the Yellowjackets.
The Yellowjackets are back in action Sunday, April 7 as they will face Saint Mary's (Minn.) The matches are set for a 1 p.m. start at the Winona Tennis Center.
