Fish, Leccia Spearhead UMAC Softball Postseason Awards

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – On the heels of securing its fourth overall and second straight Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) tournament championship, the Yellowjacket softball team slated six to the All-UMAC team as the league revealed its postseason awards Tuesday.

Indigo Fish (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) received spots on the All-UMAC First Team. Receiving honorable mention citations were Ellie Macal (Winona, Minn./Cotter) and Zoe Thomson (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson), along with Larissa Snyder (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) and Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo).

Out of the six Yellowjackets selected, four were named to the UMAC All-Defensive Team, including Swartz (pitcher), Snyder (shortstop), Leccia (OF), and Fish (UTL).

Representing the 'Jackets on the All-UMAC Sportsmanship team was Baylee O'Donnell (Mendota Hights, Minn./Richfield).

Fish's debut season for the Yellowjackets is a strong one. The Superior native holds a batting average of .373, which ranks fourth among starters. She collected 41 hits, including a team-second 18 extra base hits while slugging at a conference-fourth .609 clip. Fish clubbed her first two collegiate home runs against Northwestern Apr. 27, going 2-3 while serving as the winning run in a 6-5 victory over the Eagles. Defensively she's played both corner infield spots, holding a .976 fielding percentage while being apart of 16 double plays.

Leccia turned in a sophomore season that featured a .376 batting average (41-for-109) coupled with a conference-third slugging percentage of .661. She currently leads the Yellowjackets in RBIs (42), doubles (16) and home runs (five), while placing second in RBIs, fourth in home runs and first in doubles across the UMAC. Roaming center field, Leccia sits with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage after compiling 46 putouts. In contests against UW-Stout and North Central, she went 10-15 on the week, clubbing four home runs and adding 14 RBIs on her way to being named UMAC Player of the Week.

Macal's junior campaign has been her best season to date as a Yellowjacket. Her .379 batting average, along with a slugging percentage of .515 and on-base percentage of .444 are the highest marks of her career. Macal has clubbed seven doubles, along with two triples and a home run in the 2024 campaign. She sits with 12 multi-hit games, including a trio of three-hit contests.

Thomson currently sits with a batting average of .365 (42-for-115), while slugging at a conference-sixth and Yellowjacket-third mark of .591. Her on-base percentage is good for .430, meanwhile her on-base and slugging percentage (OPS) ranks in the UMAC top-ten at 1.021. Thomson has 11 games with extra base hits who saw a nine-game hitting streak earlier in the season. She ranks second on the team with 42 hits, four home runs, and third with 31 RBIs.

Snyder's offensive output sees her with a batting average of .310 (35-for-113), including 11 extra base hits. She ranks fourth in the conference and first for the 'Jackets with 40 runs, while leading the team with three triples and placing in the UMAC's top ten. Snyder has been a thief on the basepaths, stealing 21 bags in 21 attempts. Defensively at shortstop, she holds a .963 fielding percentage with 64 total putouts while assisting on 93.

Swartz has seen time at second base and in the circle for UW-Superior, and she boasts a .512 batting average (21-for-41) coupled with an ERA of 4.52. At the plate, Swartz saw her strongest week from Apr. 23-30, going 8-12 (.667) with four RBIs and eight runs scored. Her offensive efforts helped push the 'Jackets to a 4-1 UMAC record, including a perfect 5-5 day against Martin Luther driving in four. In the circle she holds a 9-3 record, appearing in 22 games and starting 10. Swartz accounts for 67.2 innings with two complete games under her belt. At second base she holds a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, picking up 32 assists.

The Yellowjackets (26-13, 12-6 UMAC) return to the diamond Thursday competing in the NCAA Division III Regionals. First pitch against Central College is set for 12 p.m. in Pella, Iowa.
