CSC Tabs Three Track and Field Athletes to Academic All-District Squad

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Three members of the Yellowjacket men's cross country and track and field teams were slated to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as the organization revealed in a release Tuesday.

Junior jumper Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage), alongside senior thrower Nate Ohman (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) and sprinter Ethan Westimayer (Laona, Wis./Laona) all received honors from the CSC.

The College Sports Communicators (formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom, separately recognizing cross country and track and field student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To be eligible for nomination consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and be a starter or key contributor on their respective team.

Lynch maintains a 3.75 grade point average as a Business Administration major. His mark of 4.14 meters in the pole vault gave him a share of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) outdoor championship. Indoor action saw Lynch finish the 60-meter hurdles in 8.79 seconds, earning postseason honors from the UMAC in both seasons of competition.

Ohman saw continued success in his senior campaign, earning the Mertz Mortorelli Award as the top male athlete of the year for UW-Superior. Earning a 3.75 grade point average as an Exercise Science major, he was also awarded the UMAC Scholar Athlete Leadership Award for the 2023-24 season. During the indoor season, Ohman claimed the field athlete of the meet, finishing the shot put with a mark of 14.95 meters. His performance in the outdoor championships saw him receive three championships in the shot put, discus and hammer throws before nearly qualifying for the NCAA Division III Regionals.

Westimayer holds a 3.75 grade point average while studying Transportation and Logistics. His senior season ended with All-UMAC citations in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, highlighted with a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash and claiming medalist honors in the 400-meter dash. Furthermore, Westimayer was a part of the indoor 4x200 meter relay squad that claimed the gold.

The Yellowjacket men swiped three-of-three conference championships from the UMAC in 2023-24, capturing the program's sixth cross country championship, along with its eighth and seventh indoor and outdoor titles, respectively.
