SUPERIOR, Wis. – Former Yellowjacket men's basketball forward
Josef Fahrenholtz (Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield) has signed a contract in the professional ranks ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Â
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from UW-Superior last spring, Fahrenholtz inked his first professional contract with the Nidaros Jets in the Basketligaen Norge (BLNO). The Jets are members of the first division (top league) in Norway.
Â
"Our whole program is excited for Josef and his next basketball endeavor," Yellowjacket head coach
Greg Polkowski said. "There is no doubt over the last five years during Josef's time at UW-Superior that he exhausted every drop of energy to make himself the best basketball player he could possibly be."
Â
And that, he did. Playing in 98 career games for the 'Jackets, he logged over 2,000 minutes and scored 1,042 points. Not only did he become the program's 17th member to eclipse the 1,000-point mark, Fahrenholtz also capped his senior season with a 92.6 free throw percentage, a mark that stood fourth in all of NCAA Division III.
Â
"I have no doubt that Josef's work ethic will continue to stay at a high level as he transitions to the professional level, and we look forward to following his continued success and the positive impact he will have on his new team," Polkowski continued.
Â
Fahrenholtz joins a squad with a familiar face, as former Yellowjacket Vid Milenkovic is currently signed to the Jets. The two played together during the 2019-20 season, where UW-Superior went 16-10 overall with a 13-3 mark in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. Milenkovic wrapped up the last two seasons for the Starwings in Basel, Switzerland.
Â
"It's awesome to see two of the program's former players join up across the world in Norway to be teammates again. Both Josef and Vid were extremely dedicated to improving their abilities as basketball players, and at the same time developed into great leaders and teammates during their time at UW-Superior," Polkowski said.
Â
The Jets commence the 2024-25 season Saturday, taking on Gimle Basket at Trondheim Spektrum Stadium in Norway.
