Game Notes
- The Falcons struck early, just five minutes into the game. Molly Black (Devils Lake, N.D./Devils Lake) made an initial save off her blocker, but the rebound was directed to a River Falls forward in the slot, who quickly fired a hard, low shot past Black to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. River Falls added their second goal with just over 10 minutes remaining in the period, capitalizing on a bobbled puck in the slot and sending a shot over Black's blocker to extend their lead to 2-0.
- The Falcons wasted no time in the second, scoring less than five minutes into the frame to push their lead to 3-0.
- The Yellowjackets answered back around the 5-minute mark when Brynn MacLean (Wilcox, Saskatchewan/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) fired a shot on net, allowing Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) to bury the rebound and cut the deficit to 3-1.
- Five minutes later, UWS struck again. Darbie Mattson (Atikokan, Ontario/Atikokan) passed the puck up to Jenna Hoops (Woodbury, Minn./Visitation School), who entered the offensive zone with Emma Booth (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) and Gaby Andreacchi (Thunder Bay, Ontario/St. Patrick) on a 3-on-2. Booth's initial shot was stopped, but Andreacchi's follow-up created another rebound, which Hoops buried to pull the Yellowjackets within one, 3-2.
- However, with under three minutes left in the period, the Falcons capitalized on a prolonged UWS defensive zone shift, firing a shot low past Black to reclaim a two-goal advantage at 4-2.
- The Yellowjackets faced adversity in the third period, serving a five-minute major penalty. With just under 14 minutes to play, the Falcons sealed the game with a power-play goal, firing a low shot past Black for the 5-2 final.
The Yellowjackets are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 1 with a rematch against UWRF. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. at Wessman Arena.
