SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Three members of the Superior track and field teams were voted to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference's Athlete of the Week list, the league announced Tuesday morning.
Â
The duo of freshman
Bel Dimaze (Monticello, Minn./Spectrum) and sophomore
Simone Stephens (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro) swept the league's awards for the second time this season, while senior
Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) represented the Yellowjackets as the men's track athlete of the week.
Â
Dimaze logged her first collegiate win in just her second collegiate meet over the weekend. Competing at the Twin Ports Open Saturday, she won the high jump with a leap of 1.51 meters. This not only sets a conference-leading jump, but it sets a new personal-best mark for Dimaze.
Â
Stephens ran the mile this weekend at the Twin Ports Open. She logged a time of 5:21.5, claiming third place while setting a new conference-leading mark inside the home confines of the Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse.Â
Â
Foster placed second overall in the 60-meter hurdles Saturday at the Twin Ports Open. He ran an 8.66 second race, still leading the UMAC rankings. Furthermore, Foster won the 200-meter hurdles in 25.39 seconds, establishing a new UW-Superior record.
Â
Both Yellowjacket track and field programs are in action Saturday, competing at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's Invitational. Action is set to start at 11 a.m. in Collegeville, Minn.
