MADISON – Friday the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) released its preseason preview for women's hockey, and the Yellowjackets were predicted to finish fourth in the poll of WIAC coaches and sports information directors.
UW-River Falls sits atop the poll, followed by UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point in second and third place, respectively. Rounding out the league was Beloit College in fifth place, who begins their first year of sponsoring ice hockey.
The 'Jackets feature a quartet of returners from last year's squad, including seniors
Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) and
Anna Scherling (Rogers, Minn./Rogers), along with sophomore
Taylee Marks (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold).
Parnell skated in all 28 games last season, logging 11 points off five goals and six assists. She fired 67 shots on the year up front while blocking 10 shots from the opposition. Scherling garnered 13 points last year, consisting of four goals and nine assists. Also skating in all 28 games, she added 52 shots while blocking 18. Marks logged 22 games in her debut season, scoring three goals and adding eight assists. From the blue line she thwarted away 18 opposing shots while taking 31 shots offensively.
The Yellowjackets begin regular season action Friday, Oct. 31 as they host Lake Forest for a two-game series. Their first bout is set to begin at 7 p.m. inside Wessman Arena.
