Yellowjackets Roll Past Bethany Lutheran

MANKATO, Minn. - After sweeping Martin Luther last night, the Yellowjackets volleyball team traveled to Bethany Lutheran. The last game between these two teams saw the Yellowjackets complete a reverse sweep of the Vikings. This time UWS was able to make quick work of BLC as they swept the Vikings 3-0.  

Match Notes:  

  • In the first set, the Yellowjackets were trailing the Vikings 17-11 before taking a timeout to reset. After the timeout, the Yellowjackets rallied back as they were able to seize the momentum and win 27-25 behind Makenna Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford) and Katlyn Jones (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer).  

  • In the second set, the Yellowjackets were able to take control getting out to an 18-11 set lead. UWS was able to put BLC away from kills by Sidney Bader (Milltown, Wis./Unity) and Marena Saeger (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) to end the set 25-17.  

  • In the third set, the Yellowjackets and Vikings traded momentum as both teams traded runs, but the 'Jackets took control and forced a Vikings timeout with score being 17-11. From the timeout, the Yellowjackets were able to take the set behind kills from Hohbein, Bader and Maddie Hunter (Anoka, Minn./Anoka).  

  • The Yellowjackets were led in kills by Hohbein, who had 13 while Bader and Jones each had nine.  

  • Defensively for the 'Jackets Savanna Hering (Superior, Wis./Superior) had 15 digs while Hohbein and Gabi Schwirtz (Plato, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) each had nine.  

Up next for UWS they return home Friday to take on North Central. First serve from Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
