COLFAX, Wis. – UW-Superior saw action at the Blugold Invite Friday morning, as the Yellowjacket women's cross country team continued their preparation ahead of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championships in under a month. The race, originally scheduled for the late afternoon, was moved up due to the elevated temperatures in the forecast.
Temperatures surely played a factor on the day, but the 'Jackets still turned in a strong showing in Colfax.
Race Notes
- Superior was led by Lilley Smith (Ironwood, Mich./Ironwood), entering the sub-25 minute barrier with a PR at 24:45.1, placing 139th overall.
- Simone Stephens (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro) followed, clocking a 25:59.9. Behind her was Amelia Olson (Sturgeon Lake, Minn./Moose Lake), setting a new personal-best at 27:08.5.
- Crossing the line at 28:26.1 was Lillianna Jones (Portage, Wis./Portage), also setting a PR on the morning.
- Scarlett Vanderscheuren (Saginaw, Minn./South Ridge), Kayela Putnam (Stephenson, Mich./Stephenson) and Aubrey Peterson (Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) all collected season-bests Friday morning. Vanderscheuren finished at 28:26.8, while Putnam (28:45.1) and Peterson (28:57.9) followed.
- Superior was the second conference finisher in the race, trailing only Northwestern.
The Yellowjackets return to action Saturday, Oct. 18 as they compete at the Augustana Interregional Invitational. The race is set for 11:45 a.m.
