Yellowjackets Sweep Knights on Saturday Afternoon

SUPERIOR, Wis. - After their reverse sweep of Bethany Lutheran last night, the UWS volleyball team hit the court again for more conference action this time against Martin Luther. In this match the Yellowjackets controlled the pace as they were able to come away with a 3-0 sweep of the Knights.

Match Notes:

  • UWS controlled much of the first set which included a ten-point run to make their set lead 12-3. On that run Savanna Hering (Superior, Wis./Superior) got two service aces and a kill by Kyndra Peterson (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale).

  • From there the Yellowjackets were able to take the first set by a score of 25-17 behind four kills by Sydney Smith (Milltown, Wis./Unity).

  • Set two was a similar story to the first as the Yellowjackets went on another ten-point run on the back of three kills from Makenna Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford). Hering finished off the Knights in set two on back-to-back service aces to make the score 25-12.

  • In set three Martin Luther was able to control much of the early portion as they took an 11-3 lead. The Yellowjackets would battle back to take the lead 13-12 after multiple kills from Hohbein.

  • From there the two teams traded points before UWS was able to take the set 25-21 and the 3-0 sweep of Martin Luther.

  • UWS was led in kills by Hohbein who had 14 on the afternoon while Sidney Bader (Milltown, Wis./Unity) had ten. The Yellowjackets also got four aces from Hering.

The 'Jackets (14-7, 3-1 UMAC) now get a break between their next game as they take on Crown on Friday Oct. 17. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Wild Athletic Center in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
