SUPERIOR, Wis. – Following a Friday loss to St. Scholastica, the Yellowjacket men's hockey team rebounded nicely on Saturday, as they took on their second-of-two Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponents in Bethel University. On an evening where the Yellowjackets didn't generate a lot of offense, they changed the tides Saturday, compiling 33 shots to take down the Royals 3-2.
Game Notes
- Jordan Gibbs (Redwood Falls, Minn./Jefferson) logged his first collegiate goal in the second period, taking feeds from Carson Riddle (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) and Alexey Yarmulnik (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) to break the scoreless game.
- Shortly after, AJ Reed (Milwaukee, Wis./Menomonee Falls) would garner the second of his Yellowjacket career, as Yarmulnik and Tyler Ryder (Byron Center, Mich./Northstar Christian Academy) offered the helpers to boost Superior to a 2-0 lead.
- With under a minute remaining in the middle frame the Royals got on the board, cutting their deficit in half at 2-1.
- The third Superior goal of the evening came off the stick of Blake Setter (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial), as Chris Ishmael (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park Secondary School) and Kade Shea (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld) were credited with assists at 4:40.
- Despite Bethel scoring with three minutes remaining, the Yellowjackets held on and continued to apply pressure defensively to secure their first win of the season on their home ice.
- Both teams ended their power plays 0-3 on the night.
- Daniel Rozsival (Chicago, Ill./North Shore Country Day) ended the night with four shots, while four of his teammates ended with three shots of their own.
