SUPERIOR, Wis. - After dropping a hard-fought match Friday to Minnesota Morris, the Yellowjacket volleyball team looked to bounce back Saturday and did just that, taking a 3-0 win over Crown in match one of their doubleheader. In the afternoon match, the Oles would sweep the Yellowjackets 3-0, giving Superior a 1-1 split on the day.
Match One Notes
- Superior jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the first set. A nine-point run led by Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) and Katlyn Jones (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) would quickly make it 15-3, claiming the first set 25-12.
- The second set was all Yellowjackets, coming away with a 25-14 win. A commanding 11-0 lead was made possible from kills off the swings of Makenna Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford) and Chesney Phillipp (Jacksonville, N.C./Holdingford).
- A back-and-forth third set led by efforts from Hohbein and Gabi Schwirtz (Plato, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) led to a 25-17 victory.
- Hohbein led with 11 kills, while Claude had 15 assists. Defensively, Claude led with nine digs while Lizzy Schmidt (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmot Union) collected eight.
Match Two Notes
- The Oles took the first set 26-24 after volleying the lead and points with Superior.Â
- In the second set St. Olaf came out on top in another closely contested set at 25-21. The 'Jackets got offensive output from Sidney Bader (Milltown, Wis./Unity) and Sydney Smith (Milltown, Wis./Unity).
- Set number three saw the Oles once again come out on top, sweeping the Yellowjackets 25-22.
- Bader led with 13 kills on the match, while Hohbein added 11.Â
- Defensively Hering paced with 16 digs. Claude and Hohbein each collected eight.
The Yellowjackets return to the Mertz Wednesday as they host Bethany Lutheran in the UMAC semifinal match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.Â
