Volleyball Drops 3-2 Match To Morris

SUPERIOR, Wis. - After defeating Minnesota Morris earlier this season, the Yellowjacket volleyball team looked to sweep the regular season series Friday. Despite being away from their home court, the Cougars emerged victorious in the fifth set in a back-and-forth match that kept every fan on their toes inside the Mertz.

Match Notes
  • In the first set Superior jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and didn't look back, claiming the set 25-17. They were led offensively by Makenna Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford) and Katlyn Jones (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer).
  • The Cougars and 'Jackets traded points in the second set, but Minnesota Morris responded right away with a 25-21 win.
  • UMM led by seven at 17-10 before an eight-point run by Superior flipped the script. Hohbein and Sidney Bader (Milltown, Wis./Unity) spearheaded the offense, but the Cougars held on to a 26-24 win.
  • Hohbein and Jones controlled a good portion of the offense in the fourth, forcing a fifth set with a 25-22 win.
  • A five-point run allowed the Cougars to generate offensive momentum to a five-set victory at 15-8.
  • Hohbein finished with 24 kills, nearly tying her season-high of 26. Jones added 13, while Bader capped her evening with 12.
  • Savanna Hering (Superior, Wis./Superior) paced the offense once again, adding 19 digs. Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) followed with 11 digs and 32 assists.
Superior returns to their home court Saturday as they host a split doubleheader with Crown and St. Olaf. The first serves are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. inside Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.
