DULUTH, Minn. – The Yellowjacket men's track and field squad commenced their season Saturday at the CSS Early Bird, hosted inside the Burns Wellness Commons. It was safe to say the 'Jackets were ripping and roaring to hop into their season, as a school record was broken and 24 personal records were established throughout the day.

Meet Notes
- Setting the new high-water mark in program history was Kyle Peterson (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd), who broke the previous record of 8.56 with a preliminary time of 8.46 in his collegiate debut. He would better that time later in the day, setting an 8.39 second finish for second place.
- Peterson's mark lands him 22nd overall in NCAA Division III.
- Superior would collect multiple top five finishes on the day. Ethan Bowe (Chetek, Wis./Chetek-Weyerhaeuser) solidified a new PR with a 6.95 second 60-meter dash, nearly setting a program record of his own. Bowe's time marks him 30th in the nation.
- In the 5,000-meter race, Kevin Hufziger (Macedon, N.Y./Penfield) crossed the line at 19:28.22, setting a new PR by over 30 seconds.
- Transitioning to the field events, Sawyer Ferdon's (Motley, Minn./Staples-Motley) triple jump of 13.38 meters was good for third place.
- Carson Wilhorn (Necedah, Wis./Necedah) took third in the weight throw with a heave of 16.99 meters, while Chance Davis (Superior, Wis./Superior) took fourth in the high jump with a PR of 1.75 meters.
- Superior garnered 2nd-5th in the pole vault, as Rene Sems (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) (4.10 meters) led with Jason Thomas (Superior, Wis./Superior) (3.95 meters), Jackson Fiamoncini (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) (3.80 meters) and Isaac Hanson (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) (3.65 meters) following.
- Rounding out the final top-five finisher was Logan Ulate (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc), who took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.37 meters.

The Yellowjackets will now have a month to prepare for their first home meet of the year, the Twin Ports Open, which is set for Saturday, Jan. 17 inside the Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse.
