Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Ryan Castaneda, Sports Information Manager

Carlson’s 20 Points Not Enough in Loss to UW-Stevens Point

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's basketball team continued its non-conference slate in 2025-26, facing off against the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point. The last time these two teams met was inside the Mertz, but one would have to turn the calendar back the 2014-15 campaign.

In that game, the 'Jackets were led by Sally Linzmeier who garnered 20+ points and led Superior to victory. Fast forward 11 years to Saturday's game, UWS was led by Hope Carlson's (Duluth, Minn./Proctor) 20 points off the bench, but it wouldn't be enough as the Pointers rolled to a 66-49 win.

Game Notes
  • UWSP took an early lead off a midrange jumper and a shot beyond the arc and led the remainder of the game.
  • Elsa Olson (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) and Kylee Hewitt (Hurley, Wis./) got the Yellowjacket scoring underway, but the Pointers kept pushing the pace and elevated their lead to as many as 10 in the first quarter.
  • Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley) and Maddie Reott (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) joined the scoring later in the second, and later Megan Schafer (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg) would take a pass from Olson to nail a three pointer, cutting the Pointer lead down to 15.
  • In the third quarter, Carlson subbed back into the game and hit a three off the feed of Hewitt. A few minutes later, Carlson would draw a barrage of steals and bring the 'Jackets to within 14 points heading into the fourth.
  • Despite the Yellowjackets' offensive roar, the Pointers would get back on track and maintain their lead to a 17-point victory.
  • Carlson finished with 20 points, eight steals and three assists in just 25 minutes. She shot 7-13 from the field and hit both three pointers she attempted.
  • Schafer and Ferstl led with four rebounds apiece.

The 'Jackets (2-7) will now enter the UW-Oshkosh BSN Winter Classic, scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 28-Monday, Dec. 29. Their first opponent is Ripon, and they will tip off at 1 p.m. inside the Oshkosh Arena.
