SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's track and field team returned to the Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse Saturday for championship Saturday. Entering the final day of action Superior held sole possession of third place, with Northwestern sitting atop the pack in first while Crown crept behind in second.
All three teams in the top spot stayed within striking distance of each other, but the Polars of Crown College prevailed with 138 points. Coming in second was Northwestern with 136 points with UW-Superior in third at 127 total points.
Meet Notes
- Summer Hesseldahl (International Falls, Minn./Falls) garnered a second-place finish and a new personal record in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the line at 9.79 seconds. Her sister Keira Hesseldahl (International Falls, Minn./Falls) also grabbed a new high-water mark, finishing eighth at 10.79 seconds.
- Cora Schmitz (Luck, Wis./Unity) took sixth place in the 60-meter dash, establishing a new season best at 8.603 seconds.
- The 800-meter race saw a new season-low come from Taylor DeCook (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect), placing ninth at 2:37.35.
- Summer Hesseldahl (International Falls, Minn./Falls) placed eighth in the 200-meter, clocking a 28.78 second race time. Schmitz also competed, finishing in 29.84 seconds.
- Finishing fifth in the 3,000-meter race with a personal record of 11:12.77 was Tea Boerner (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna). Closely following came Cora Hudella (North Branch, Minn./North Branch), snagging seventh place with a race time of 11:24.89.
- Lilley Smith (Ironwood, Mich./Ironwood) set a PR at 11:51.47 for 11th place before Aubrey Peterson (Kasson, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville) (12:26.74) raced to a season best and Isabel Molina (Solon Springs, Wis./Solon Springs) (12:59.52) garnered a PR, also in the 3k.
- The 'Jackets rounded out the 4x400-meter race with a season-best mark, as DeCook, Summer Hesseldahl (International Falls, Minn./Falls), Scarlett Vanderscheuren (Saginaw, Minn./South Ridge) and Lillianna Jones (Portage, Wis./Portage) combined for a 4:37.83 finish.
- Kory Windish (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) set a new PR in the shot put, placing second with a heave of 11.21 meters. Sydney Cox (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) finished 11th at 9.47 meters before Isabel Miller (Medford, Minn./Medford) marked an 8.70-meter toss.
- Myla Volk (Wabeno, Wis./Wabeno) garnered first place with a triple jump of 10.20 meters, while Catie McPherson (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) leaped to a season-best mark of 9.51 meters.
- Finally in the pole vault, there was a three-way tie for first place with Minnesota Morris' Brynna York and the Yellowjacket duo of Kayela Putnam (Stephenson, Mich./Stephenson) and Hannah Hutton (Spooner, Wis./Spooner). All three logged a vault of 2.85 meters.
- McKenna Nash (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) and Keira Hesseldahl (International Falls, Minn./Falls) were in a four-way tie of fourth place, sitting at 2.40 meters. Hesseldahl equalized her personal record in the process.
UWS will now prepare select individuals for the Ripon Final Qualifier. Action at the Willmore Center will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Mar. 7.
