Yellowjackets Edged by Belhaven in Alabama Opener

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Yellowjackets men's tennis team got its spring trip underway Monday, taking on Belhaven University out of Mississippi in its first match in Alabama. The 'Jackets came into play looking to extend their winning streak to three, but Belhaven, who like the Yellowjackets were under .500, came from behind to win the thriller.

The Yellowjackets got things started by taking the doubles point and had a lead, but Belhaven won the final two singles matches to edge the Yellowjackets 4-3 at the Gulf Shores Tennis Complex.

UWS had its two-match win streak snapped and now sits at 3-8 on the year.

The Yellowjackets won two-of-three doubles matches, getting wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to take the lead, and were one point away from victory with two wins in singles, but Belhaven took matches at the No. 1 and No. 4 singles spots to secure the victory.
