Yellowjackets Fall to River Falls as Season Comes to a Close

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's hockey team saw its postseason run come to an end on Saturday, as top-ranked UW-River Falls completed a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) semifinal sweep with a 6-0 victory at W.H. Hunt Arena.

With the loss, UW-Superior's season concludes, while UW-River Falls advances to the WIAC championship game next week.

Despite the loss, goaltender Molly Black (Devils Lake, N.D./Devils Lake) stood tall, making 42 saves against a relentless Falcons attack. She finishes the season with an 8-7-1 record.

Game Notes
  • Emma Booth (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) led the Yellowjackets with four shots on goal, while Kaylin Garner (Anchorage, Alaska/Chugiak) and Cora Coz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) followed closely behind with three shots each.
  • Jenna Hoops (Woodbury, Minn./Visitation School) and Ashton Parnell (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) were key in the faceoff circle, winning 10 draws each for Superior.
  • Coz led the team defensively with three blocked shots, while Maddie Rewertz (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) and Stacy Steiner (Janesville, Wis./Craig) each blocked two, helping to limit additional scoring chances.
  • The Falcons wasted no time seizing control, with Katherine Bell opening the scoring at 9:00 of the first period.
  • River Falls extended the lead in the second period, as Megan Goodreau and Ellie Brice found the back of the net, making it 3-0 heading into the third.
  • Needing a comeback, the Yellowjackets pushed forward, but the Falcons proved too strong. Bailey Olson and Sami Pool capitalized on power plays, and Brice added her second goal of the game, securing the series victory.
  • UW-River Falls outshot UW-Superior 48-22.
  • Power plays were key, with the Falcons going 2-for-6, while the Yellowjackets went 0-for-5.
  • Brice led all scorers with two goals and an assist, while Olson and Pool each had a goal and an assist.
