WINONA, Minn. – The Yellowjacket men's track and field team carried it's momentum into the Saint Mary's Invite on Saturday, posting a string of standout performances in sprints, distance, hurdles, jumps, and throws. UW-Superior notched 10 personal bests and a pair of nationally-ranked marks on a strong day at the Saint Mary's Outdoor Complex.
Meet Notes
- In the sprints, Will Schorr (Superior, Wis./Superior) clocked 11.10 seconds in the 100-meter dash, taking fourth. He also ran 23.34 seconds in the 200 to place 10th. Edward Hakanson (Foxboro, Wis./Superior) added times of 11.28 seconds and 23.06 seconds in the 100 and 200, respectively. Frank Terwey followed closely in both events, posting 11.39 seconds and 23.52 seconds. Garrett Kroells (Green Isle, Minn./Sibley East) ran 24.74 seconds in the 200.
- Joseph Kamara (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.57 seconds.
- Kroells returned to compete in the 400-meter hurdles, placing sixth in 1:01.24.
- Jesse Ortiz (Medford, Minn./Medford) delivered one of the top individual performances of the day in the 400, running 49.10 seconds to finish first overall and rank 71st in NCAA Division III this season.
- In the 800, Dylan Uitto (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) ran a personal best of 1:58.48 to win the event. Zach Reese (Zimmerman, Minn./Spectrum) and Kevin Hufziger (Macedon, N.Y./Penfield) followed in 2:07.51 and 2:24.66, respectively.
- Reese also posted a personal-best 4:09.54 in the 1500 to take third, while Maverick Hoogland (Catawba, Wis./Phillips) was eighth in 4:23.90. Deryck Parduhn (Ashland, Wis./Ashland), Tyler Smith (Ironwood, Mich./Ironwood), Ben Adler, and Oleksandr Danylov (Kyiv, Ukraine/European Collegium) rounded out the crew.
- In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Kieran Johnson (South Range, Wis./Northwestern) ran a personal-best 10:24.80 to finish third. Jayde Canfield (Prescott, Wis./Prescott), Ben Plackner (Bovey, Minn./Greenway), and Dominick Meisner (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) all followed with solid efforts.
- The throws group showed well again. Bo Waletzko (Superior, Wis./Superior) led the way in the discus with a personal-best mark of 37.72 meters, placing second, followed closely by Carson Wilhorn (Necedah, Wis./Necedah) in third at 37.37 meters. In the hammer throw, Wilhorn earned a new personal best with a toss of 49.73 meters, ranking him 91st in DIII. Waletzko, Fabian Rosales (Washburn, Wis./Washburn), Cameron Wegner (Superior, Wis./Superior), and Blake Rossmann (Brule, Wis./Brule) also scored in the top 10.
- In the javelin, Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) took first with a throw of 55.70 meters. Ethan Ashworth (Danbury, Wis./Webster) hit a personal best of 36.18 meters for sixth place.
- The Yellowjackets landed four in the top 10 in the long jump, led by Jesse Ortiz (Medford, Minn./Medford) at 6.56 meters for second place. Will Schorr (Superior, Wis./Superior) jumped 6.14 meters for fourth, followed by Chancellor Davis at 5.83 meters and Kamara with a personal-best 5.73 meters. Isaac Hanson (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) also notched a PR at 5.24 meters.
- Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage) cleared 4.10 meters in the pole vault to place fifth. Jason Thomas (Superior, Wis./Superior) and Rene Sems (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) both cleared 3.90 meters, with Jackson Fiamoncini (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) and Isaac Hanson (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) rounding out the group.
- In the shot put, Waletzko had a season-best throw of 12.40 meters to place fifth. Wilhorn, Rossmann, and Rosales also competed, with Blake and Wegner both hitting 11.52 meters.
- The Yellowjackets placed second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:55.39, featuring the team of Meisner, Canfield, Johnson, and Plackner.
The Yellowjackets return to action Thursday, April 17, for the Phil Esten Challenge at Veterans Memorial Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wis. Events are set to begin at 2 p.m.
