LA CROSSE, Wis. – Thursday saw the freshman duo of
Riley Toivonen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) and
Bel Dimaze (Monticello, Minn./Spectrum) from the Yellowjacket women's track and field team travel to the Veterans Memorial Stadium to partake in the Phil Esten Challenge. Both would see action in the heptathlon, where a slew of tough Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) participants also competed.

The four events that took place Thursday were the 100-meter hurdles, the high jump, shot put, and the 200-meter dash. Friday's events will feature the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter race.

When it was all said and done the day saw Dimaze in 16th place with 1,617 points, followed by Toivonen in 17th place with 1,592 points.

Dimaze wrapped the 100-meter hurdles in 17th place with a time of 19.45 seconds. She also took 18th in the shot put, garnering a heave of 6.47 meters. The 200-meter dash saw her finish 15th overall in 29.36 seconds before rounding out with a 1.33-meter mark in the high jump, good for 14th place.

Toivonen secured a pair of 16th place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and the shot put, achieving marks of 19.09 seconds and 7.77 meters, respectively. She wrapped up her day with a 17th place 30.10 second mark in the 200-meters before logging a shot put mark of 1.24 meters.

The duo will return for day two of the Phil Esten Challenge Friday. Events are set to begin at 10 a.m.
