DULUTH, Minn. – The Yellowjacket baseball team continued its busy week, traveling across the bridge to take on St. Scholastica in their first of two single-nine inning contests in 2025. The 'Jackets entered the day on a three-game skid, dropping a twin bill to Minnesota Morris and a non-conference match-up with the Scots of Macalester College.
Â
Just two days after their last game Superior took the diamond once again, facing a team who is coming off a pair of 14-2 wins against North Central from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Wednesday the 'Jackets showcased their hot hitting as well, as both teams totaled 33 hits and 31 runs.
Â
Superior scored first in the top of the second, but a seven-run Saints inning followed by a six-spot in the third gave them a 13-6 lead. UWS countered with a six-spot of their own in their half of the sixth and knotted things up in the following inning. After scoring two key runs in the top of the ninth, St. Scholastica walked it off after Jake Schelonka sent a ball just over the left field wall, walking it off for the Saints and winning 16-15.

Game Notes
- The Yellowjackets got the hit parade started with a double down the right field line from Tanner Voight (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater). On the first pitch of the at-bat, Maxton Howell (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) sent a ball well over the wall in left field for an early 2-0 lead.
- Noah Dagostino (Andover, Minn./Andover) roped a single into left field that scored Wylee Lottman (Kerkhoven, Minn./Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg) to make the 'Jackets' lead 3-0. Lottman singled up the middle earlier in the frame.
- St. Scholastica utilized seven hits and multiple Yellowjacket miscues to score seven runs in their half of the second, leading 7-3.
- UW-Superior responded right away with another three spot in the top of the third. Trey Sybrant (Saint Michael, Minn./Saint Michael-Albertville) singled through the left side to begin the inning. After Voight walked, Howell reached base on a Saints error to plate two. After a Saints pitching change Cole Ondrus (Esko, Minn./Esko) squared up a baseball that was sent over the wall in left for a home run, cutting the Yellowjacket deficit down to just one at 7-6.
- CSS utilized a pair of hit-by-pitches to begin a rally, as they plated six off five hits in the bottom of the third, leading the Yellowjackets 13-6.

- Sybrant garnered an RBI single to center that plated Dagostino, bringing the score to 13-8. Voight got on base after another Saints error, which led up to Howell clobbering his second long ball of the game, this time resulting in a grand slam. This blast brought UWS within one at 13-12.
- The game was tied after the top of the seventh inning, courtesy of a homer off the bat of Dagostino.
- During the bottom of the eighth inning the Saints utilized two hit-batsmen to take the lead as a sacrifice fly gave them a 14-13 edge.
- During the Yellowjackets' last ups, a pinch-hit single up the middle came off the bat of Devin Frydenlund (Belleville, Wis./Belleville). Dagostino would walk with two outs before Steiner sent a triple just past the diving glove of St. Scholastica's center fielder, plating the go-ahead run at 15-14.
- In the bottom of the ninth the Yellowjackets allowed the leadoff man on via base-on-balls, and Jake Schelonka sent a ball just over the left field wall to walk it off at 16-15.
