Gus Nascimento Named Club Men's Soccer Head Coach

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics have announced, following a national search, the hiring of Gus Nascimento as the head coach of the UW-Superior club men's soccer team.

Nascimento was selected from a field of candidates as the program's first coach and is tasked with building a roster that will begin competing in fall as part of the Midwest Alliance Soccer Conference (MASC).

"I'm incredibly grateful to the search committee and the university leadership for this opportunity. Having been part of UW-Superior Athletic for the past few years, I truly appreciate the trust they've placed in me and my work," Nascimento said. "I'm excited to take on the challenge of building the club men's soccer program from the ground up, and with the season only a few months away, I'm eager to hit the ground running and work alongside our student-athletes and the athletics staff to create a strong foundation for long-term success."

Nascimento is a well-known commodity in the local soccer community. Most recently he has spent the last two years as an assistant coach with the Yellowjacket varsity men's soccer team. During this time he has also served as the director of coaching with Two Harbors Soccer Club as well as being an assistant coach with Superior City FC of the UPSL. Nascimento has also sharpened his coaching skills with stints at Lake Superior College, Duluth East High School and East Select Soccer.

Away from the pitch, Nascimento worked at UW-Superior in international admissions as well as the registrar's office.

"We are excited to have Coach Nascimento lead our club program as we approach our inaugural season this fall," said Nick Bursik, UW-Superior Director of Athletics. "His vision for the program and commitment to the student-athlete experience will help build a strong foundation for the program."

Nascimento's first day with the club men's soccer program will be May 5.
