WINONA, Minn. – The rugged non-conference schedule continued for the Yellowjacket men's tennis team Sunday, as they traveled to southern Minnesota to take on Grinnell College. The neutral site match pitted the Yellowjackets against the No. 69 team in the nation, and the Pioneers were every bit the part of one of the top teams in NCAA Division III.

Grinnell secured the lone point in doubles action and swept its way through the singles, defeating the Yellowjackets 7-0 Sunday.

The Yellowjackets have now lost three straight and sit at 4-13 on the year, heading into their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener.

Sharan Kanugovi (Bangalore, Karnataka/New Baldwin International School) had a thrilling match at No. 1 singles. Going against Grinnell's Wilder Cooke, Kanugovi lost one more break point than Cooke, falling 7-5 in the opening set. The second set was even closer, as Kanugovi and Cook were tied 6-6 and went to a tiebreaker, which Cooke won by an 8-6 score.

Mateo Abarca Pino (Riobamba, Ecuador/El Despertar) and
Marcos Labella Parrilla (Malaga, Spain/IES Emilio Prados) teamed up at No. 3 doubles and came up just short against Albert Bostoen and Karch Knoll, falling 6-7 (3-7)

- Sunday's meeting was the first-ever match between UW-Superior and Grinnell.
- Grinnell took all three doubles matches Sunday.
- Blake Haugen (Fairmont, Minn./Fairmont) and Brandon Chu (Rogers, Minn./Rogers) teamed up at No. 2 doubles and fell 6-4.
- After falling in the first set 2-6 and trailing in the second at No. 2 singles, Yash Chhabra (Jaipur, Rajasthan/Sanskar School) was forced to retire his match.

The Yellowjackets return to the court Saturday, April 12 when they take on Crown College and Martin Luther College on the road in UMAC play. The match with Crown will begin at 10 a.m. at Waconia High School in Waconia, Minn., while the Martin Luther match will have a 3:30 p.m. first serve at the MLC Tennis Courts.
