ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Yellowjacket men's track and field team sent select student-athletes to compete in the NCAA Last Chance Qualifier Wednesday, hosted by Augustana College. Seven Yellowjackets saw action at the Austin E. Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex, taking on a slew of other athletes from various conferences across NCAA Division III all fighting for a chance to compete at the national level.
Superior held their own on the day, but ultimately fell a bit short from advancing to the NCAA Championships. UWS was led by
Dylan Uitto (Ashland, Wis./Ashland), the lone Yellowjacket who PR'd on the day. He completed the 1,500-meter race in 3:59.83, while
Aidan Doherty (Wild Rose, Wis./Wild Rose) later crossed the line in 4:26.76.
Both
Zach Reese (Zimmerman, Minn./Spectrum) and
Kieran Johnson (South Range, Wis./Northwestern) nabbed a pair of top-ten finishes in the 5,000-meter race, collecting times of 16:43.12 and 17:56.85, respectively.
In the field events
Earl Foster (Forest Lake, Minn./Spectrum) led the way in the javelin throw, collecting a 53.27-meter heave for seventh place.
Garrett Lynch (Portage, Wis./Portage) took 11th overall in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.20 meters.
Carson Wilhorn (Necedah, Wis./Necedah) rounded out the 'Jackets in the hammer throw, finishing 19th at 47.57 meters.
Wednesday's action in Rock Island concluded the outdoor season for the Yellowjackets.
