La Crosse, Wis. - The Yellowjacket volleyball team continued their matches at the UW-La Crosse Invitational Saturday afternoon after emerging victorious in their first two matches of the weekend. They started off with a match against St. Norbert who they defeated 3-1. To finish their tournament, they took on host UW-La Crosse and dropped the match 3-1. 

Match 1 Notes:  

• In set one the Yellowjackets and St. Norbert traded points early before UWS went on a six-point run off Green Knights mistakes. However, St. Norbert battled back into the set tying the Yellowjackets at 23 before UWS took the last two winning the set 25-23.  

• In set two UWS jumped in front early with an 8-2 lead behind kills from Marena Saeger (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater), but St. Norbert went on a run of their own to take the lead 9-8. From there the Green Knights took control and won the set 25-19.  

• In set three the two teams traded points before UWS took control with help from an ace by Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool). St. Norbert again battled their way back into set eventually taking the lead 23-22 but UWS came away with the set win 25-23.  

• In set four the two teams again traded early points, but the Yellowjackets held an early advantage. UWS was able to put St. Norbert away with a six-point run with kills from Makenna Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford), Kate Jamtgaard (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids), and Claude, ultimately taking it 25-17 winning the match 3-1.  

• UWS was led in kills by Katlyn Jones (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) with 11 and Savanna Hering (Superior, Wis./Superior) led the way with 18 digs.  

Match 2 Notes:  

• In set one the Yellowjackets and Eagles traded points before UW-La Crosse took control not surrendering their lead after taking it at 16-15. 

• In set two UWS took early control off two kills from Hohbein and an ace from Sidney Bader (Milltown, Wis./Unity) contributed to the 'Jackets 9-2 lead. From there the Yellowjackets and Eagles again traded points, but the Yellowjackets finished off the Eagles with a set win of 25-13 

• In set three both teams went on runs of three points each before the Eagles were able to take control of the set and went on to win 25-16. 

• In set four the Yellowjackets were able to seize momentum off a five-point swing behind efforts from Kyndra Peterson (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale), Jones and Hohbein taking a 9-6 advantage.  

• After the Yellowjacket flurry the Eagles were able to regain control going on a five-point run themselves at one point. After that the Yellowjackets never got back within four points and were defeated 25-19. 

• The Yellowjackets were led in kills by Hohbein with 15 while Hering led the way with 19 digs. 

Next up for the Yellowjackets they make their first appearance in Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium on the season as they host the Subway Stinger Classic. They will face Concordia (Minn.) at 3 p.m. and Augsburg at 7 p.m. on Friday.
