RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Saturday the Yellowjacket women's soccer team hit the road to take on the Falcons of UW-River Falls in non-conference play. Superior rattled their first two goals of the season in the first half, but that wouldn't be enough as UWRF rallied to a 4-2 win on their home turf.
Match Notes
- The Falcons scored in the third minute of play and added another at the 13th minute to take an early lead. Eight minutes later, Niamh Larson (Brookfield, Ill./Riverside Brookfield) sent one past the Falcon goalkeeper Kiera Nelson for the Yellowjackets' first goal of the campaign.
- The half continued as Julia Taylor (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) would rattle her first goal of the year, knotting things up at 2-2.
- With under a minute to play in the first half, UWRF struck to lead 3-2 and eventually found the back of the net again in the 71st minute to secure their fourth win of the season.
- Larson led the way with three total shots, two of which were on goal. Kasja Kovala (Winona, Minn./Winona) followed with two shots with one on frame.
- Baylee Nygard (Saint Peter, Minn./Saint Peter) got her first collegiate start Saturday, making 17 saves against a tough Falcon offense.
Superior opens conference play Wednesday as they host North Central. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at SCCU Stadium.
