Yellowjackets Stymied by Bethany Lutheran, 68-59

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's basketball team played its first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) game on their home hardwood Saturday, facing off against Bethany Lutheran. Both squads came away with their first conference win Wednesday and were looking to continue their winning ways early in league action. The Vikings got off to a strong start and rode that to a 68-59 victory.

Game Notes
  • BLC broke out to a 12-0 lead before Maddie Reott (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) began the Yellowjacket scoring with a jumper from Kylee Hewitt (Hurley, Wis./).
  • Superior rebounded nicely and came within eight after the first quarter. Reott and Hewitt, alongside Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley) and Megan Schafer (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg), provided the spark.
  • The Vikings held at least a six-point lead during the second. Hope Carlson (Duluth, Minn./Proctor) joined the scoring early while MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset), Ferstl and Reott added points of their own.
  • Superior outscored Bethany Lutheran in the third, beginning with four points from Ferstl. Schafer continued to heat up in the third with consecutive points before the Vikings entered the fourth with a 54-42 advantage.
  • Reott led the charge with a handful of successful step-back shots from midrange, bringing UWS within six at 56-50. The Vikings countered late and after converting on Yellowjacket miscues, they would secure a 68-59 win.
  • Reott scored 19 on the day, adding six assists and three rebounds. Ferstl logged 12 points with four boards.
  • Carlson led defensively with seven rebounds.
  • From the field, UWS shot at a clip of 43.3%.
