Yellowjackets Roll Past Martin Luther 59-46

SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Yellowjacket women's basketball team hosted Martin Luther on Saturday afternoon looking to bounce back after their loss last weekend. Superior was able to do exactly what they set out to do and take down the Knights 59-46.

Game Notes:

  • Martin Luther jumped out to an early 7-0 lead but back-to-back threes from Hope Carlson (Duluth, Minn./Proctor) and a layup from Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) gave them a 10-9 lead.

  • Later in the first quarter a layup from Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley) and three from MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) allowed the 'Jackets to take a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

  • In the second quarter the 'Jackets built their lead as buckets from Kyra Latvala (Solon Springs, Wis./Solon Springs), Maddie Reott (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton), and Carlson made the score 32-23 going into halftime.

  • In the third, Superior was able to maintain control as a pair of three pointers from Leccia and Claude, and two buckets from Reott made the lead 16 going into the fourth quarter.

  • The 'Jackets led by as many as 17 in the fourth quarter as they were able to close out the game, earning the 59-46 victory.

  • Both Reott and Carlson scored 12 points to lead the Yellowjackets. On the defensive end Reott was able to pull down nine rebounds falling one shy of a double-double.

  • Ava Stein was the game's leading scorer as she paced the Knights with 17 points.

The Yellowjackets (5-11, 2-1 UMAC) are next in action on Wednesday as they host Northwestern. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside Mortorelli Gymnasium.
