SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's track and field team, following over a month off from their season opener, played host to the Twin Ports Open Saturday. Welcoming a variety of NCAA Division II and III opponents inside Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse, the 'Jackets made strong progress on their way to claiming their third Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) indoor title.
Meet Notes
- Lillianna Jones (Portage, Wis./Portage) garnered a season best mark of 1:08.64 in the 400-meter race, taking third place in a heat of athletes from NCAA Division II Minnesota Duluth.
- In the mile, the Yellowjacket tandem of Amelia Olson (Sturgeon Lake, Minn./Moose Lake) (5:56.14), Scarlett Vanderscheuren (Saginaw, Minn./South Ridge) (6:24.95) and Abby Congleton (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) (6:53.06) took fourth, eighth and ninth places, respectively.
- In field events, KelliJoy Manninen (Duluth, Minn./Proctor) established a new PR in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.52 meters for second place, just .05 meters from the top spot.
- Another pair of season bests came from Kayela Putnam (Stephenson, Mich./Stephenson) and Keira Hesseldahl (International Falls, Minn./Falls), logging marks of 3.00 meters and 2.70 meters, respectively, in pole vault.
- The 4x400 relay squad of Jones, Vanderscheuren, Putnam and Olson took second place with a race time of 4:44.21.
The 'Jackets will take part in the Saint Benedict Invitational next Saturday inside The Donald McNeely Spectrum.
