Saint Benedict Invitational Hosts Yellowjacket Women

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saturday the Yellowjacket women's track and field team competed at the Saint Benedict Invitational. Superior put forth another solid outing, collecting 13 personal records and a trio of season bests throughout the day.
 
Meet Notes
  • Cora Schmitz (Luck, Wis./Unity) took home an 8.80-second 60-meter dash in the preliminary race before placing sixth overall in the finals with an 8.76-second finish.
  • Later in the 200-meter dash, Schmitz garnered a season-best mark of 29.88 seconds, good for a fourth-place finish in the standings.
  • Abby Congleton (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) took home a top-five finish, crossing the line at 1:15.88 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
  • Superior took home third place in the 800-meter dash courtesy of Amelia Olson (Sturgeon Lake, Minn./Moose Lake), clocking a 2:32.13.
  • KelliJoy Manninen (Duluth, Minn./Proctor) had another fine day in the high jump. Her mark of 1.54 meters was good for a second-place finish, while Kayela Putnam (Stephenson, Mich./Stephenson) (1.42 meters) and Kyra Nelson (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) (1.39 meters) followed in ninth and tenth place, respectively.
  • Putnam vaulted to a Yellowjacket-best mark of 2.95 meters on the day, sitting in third place. Keira Hesseldahl (International Falls, Minn./Falls) produced a season-best of 2.77 meters in fourth place, while Hannah Hutton (Spooner, Wis./Spooner) (2.46 meters) and Ella Briggs (Ridgeland, Wis./Prairie Farm) (2.34 meters) tailed in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
  • Alivia Visger (Superior, Wis./Superior) took home a 10.14-meter heave in the shot put, while solidifying a new personal record in the weight throw with an 11.58-meter mark.
  • Additionally, the Yellowjacket 4x200 relay squad of Olson, Putnam, Congleton and Scarlett Vanderscheuren (Saginaw, Minn./South Ridge) took home a first-place finish, collecting a time of 2:06.55.
 
The Yellowjackets will now prepare for the Warren Bowlus Invite next week. Select individuals will participate during Friday's multi's, while the remainder of the squad will compete Saturday.
