Yellowjackets Fall Short Against Bethany Lutheran

MANKATO, Minn. - The Yellowjacket women's basketball team hit the road Saturday afternoon to take on Bethany Lutheran. Despite the 'Jackets and Vikings being tied midway through the third quarter, a Bethany Lutheran run allowed them to come away with the 55-48 victory.

Game Notes:

  • The Yellowjackets and Vikings were neck-and-neck throughout the first quarter with Elsa Olson (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) and Hope Carlson (Duluth, Minn./Proctor) scoring for Superior.

  • BLC built a lead in the second quarter, but the 'Jackets were able to get the lead down to three at the halftime break off buckets from Megan Schafer (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg) and Maddie Reott (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton).

  • The Yellowjackets took a brief lead in the third off a jumper from MyKenzie Leccia (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) before falling behind again. Superior was able to tie the game at 34 off a pair of free throws from Olson, but a 7-0 run from BLC closed the third quarter.

  • In the fourth, the Vikings led by as many as 14 before buckets from Leccia, Carlson and Abby Johnson (Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) closed the scoring.

  • Hope Carlson (Duluth, Minn./Proctor) led the 'Jackets in scoring with 12 while Reott scored 10. For the Vikings, Megan Wegner and Arinn McGee each had 13 points.

Superior (10-13, 7-3 UMAC) returns to the court Wednesday when they go on the road to play Crown. Tip-off between the Yellowjackets and Polars is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Wild Athletic Center in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
