SUPERIOR, Wis. – Following the opening day of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) indoor track and field championships, the Yellowjacket men sat in first place with 116 points. Superior more than doubled their point total, finishing with 264 points and claiming their 10th indoor title in as many years.

Meet Notes
- Following a big day in weight throw, Carson Wilhorn (Necedah, Wis./Necedah) doubled down on first-place finishes, taking the crown in shot put with a personal best mark of 14.49 meters.
- Chase Pierce (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) also set a personal best, finishing third overall with a heave of 13.59.
- In the pole vault, Rene Sems (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) claimed the top spot clearing the bar at 4.35 meters. Jason Thomas (Superior, Wis./Superior) took second at 4.20 meters.
- Taking second in the triple jump was Sawyer Ferdon (Motley, Minn./Staples-Motley), finishing with a leap of 13.24 meters.
- Kyle Peterson (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) currently ranks 52nd in all of NCAA Division III following his 8.32-second finish in the 60-meter hurdles. This time not only serves as a personal best, but it marks a new school record.
- Jesse Ortiz (Medford, Minn./Medford) took home the top spot in the 60-meter finals at 7.02 seconds, followed by Ethan Bowe (Chetek, Wis./Chetek-Weyerhaeuser) in second at 7.06 seconds.
- Peterson also took first in the 200-meter dash, setting a personal best time of 22.76 seconds. Bowe's 22.83 seconds was good for second place and his season best, while Ortiz logged a third-place finish in 22.93 seconds.
- In the 3,000-meters, Dylan Uitto (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) (8:54.60), Maverick Hoogland (Catawba, Wis./Phillips) (9:11.69) and Ben Plackner (Bovey, Minn./Greenway) (9:29.66) made up the top three.
- The Yellowjacket foursome of Garrett Kroells (Green Isle, Minn./Sibley East), Ortiz, Bowe and Peterson took home first in the 4x400-meter with a time of 3:30.68.

The Yellowjackets will now send select participants to the Ripon Final Qualifier. The two-day event is scheduled to begin Friday inside the Willmore Center.
