RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Yellowjacket men's track and field team took on the winter classic Saturday, hosted by UW-River Falls. Seven personal records and seven season-best marks were achieved on the day, as they inch closer to defending their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) indoor title at the end of February.
Meet Notes
- Ethan Bowe (Chetek, Wis./Chetek-Weyerhaeuser) took fifth in his preliminary 60-meter dash at 7.18 seconds before running a 7.12 second time in the finals. Both marks gave him fifth place in each of his races.
- Kyle Peterson (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) tied his personal best in the 60-meter hurdles, placing second with a race time of 8.36 seconds. He would later set a new high-water mark in the 400-meter dash at 53.47 seconds.
- Both Garrett Kroells (Green Isle, Minn./Sibley East) and Kieran Bignell (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) set season bests in the 400-meter dash at 56.03 and 58.20, respectively.
- Ben Plackner (Bovey, Minn./Greenway) finished third in the mile at a 4:33.39 race time, while Maverick Hoogland (Catawba, Wis./Phillips) took ninth at 4:42.10. This time marked a new personal record for Hoogland.
- The 4x200-relay squad of Edward Hakanson (Foxboro, Wis./Superior), Bowe, Garrett Kroells (Green Isle, Minn./Sibley East) and Peterson took third with a time of 1:35.10.
- Carson Wilhorn (Necedah, Wis./Necedah) won the weight throw with a personal record of 17.75 meters. He also marked a 13.41-meter heave in the shot put for eighth place.
- Wilhorn currently ranks 25th in NCAA Division III with his heave in the weight throw.
- Sawyer Ferdon (Motley, Minn./Staples-Motley) took a 6.02-meter mark in the long jump, placing seventh in the meet.
- The Yellowjacket duo of Jason Thomas (Superior, Wis./Superior) and Jackson Fiamoncini (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) finished with 4.0 meters in the pole vault.
The 'Jackets return home for the Maday Classic, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14. Events will begin at 11:30 a.m. inside Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse.
