Superior Maintains Momentum to Take Down Martin Luther 59-42

SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Yellowjacket women's basketball team went to Martin Luther College on Saturday to sweep the season series against the Knights. Superior maintained the lead throughout the game and pulled out the win 59-42.

Game Notes

· Superior took the lead early in the first period when senior Kylee Hewitt (Hurley, Wis./) made a layup to kick things off for the Yellowjackets.

· MLC came back but a drained three from Megan Schafer (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg) pulled the 'Jackets away with the lead 13-6 heading into the second quarter.

· The second quarter remained scoreless for several minutes until the Knights scored a pair to close in at 13-8.

· Superior had a scoring frenzy in the second period, increasing their lead with 18 points.

· Schafer drained a buzzer-beater three-pointer to conclude the first half with the 'Jackets up over the Knights 31-15.

· Elsa Olson (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) made a jumpshot for two points after a scoreless two minutes in the third quarter to get things going.

· Superior continued to outscore Martin Luther and entered the final frame up 42-28 points.

· While the Knights went on a scoring rally in the second half, it was not enough to beat the 'Jackets. UWS won by a 59-42 decision.

· Maddie Reott (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) and Schafer were Superior's lead scorers of the night with 11 each.

· Olson led the team in assists with three.

· Charlotte Ferstl (Plain, Wis./River Valley), Reott, and Schafer were all tied with eight rebounds.

With today's fourth-straight win, Superior now holds a 7-2 record in conference play. The Yellowjackets will travel to Mankato on Wednesday to take on the top-seeded Vikings of Bethany Lutheran. The opening tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
