Yellowjacket Men Second After Day One of UMAC Championship

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket men's track and field team hosted day one of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Outdoor Championship Friday. After day one, the 'Jackets hold sole possession of second place heading into the second-of-two days of the championship meet.
 
Meet Notes
  • In the 100-meter prelims, Superior was led by Kyle Peterson (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) (11.01), Ethan Bowe (Chetek, Wis./Chetek-Weyerhaeuser) (11.10), Logan Ulate (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) (11.11) and Edward Hakanson (Foxboro, Wis./Superior) (11.12) in 2nd-5th places, respectively.
  • Peterson set a new meet record in the 200-meter dash, claiming first place with a time of 21.91 seconds. Bowe followed in fourth place in 22.23 seconds.
  • Braden Niessen (Rush City, Minn./Rush City) led the 'Jackets in the 400-meter hurdles, placing sixth in 1:01.40 while Garrett Kroells (Green Isle, Minn./Sibley East) (1:02.38) took eighth.
  • In the 800-meters, Dylan Uitto (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) placed second in 1:58.07.
  • The top two Yellowjackets in the 3,000-meter steeplechase were Jayde Canfield (Prescott, Wis./Prescott) (10:30.49) and Dominick Meisner (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) (10:37.72), placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
  • Chance Davis (Superior, Wis./Superior), Logan Ulate (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) and Micky Little (Superior, Wis./Superior) placed in the top 10 in long jump, picking up leaps of 6.34 meters, 6.17 meters and 5.95 meters, respectively.
  • Taking home the top spot was Rene Sems (Ashland, Wis./Ashland), vaulting to a mark of 4.05 meters. Jackson Fiamoncini (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) and Little followed with marks of 3.90 and 3.45 meters, respectively.
  • Both Chase Pierce (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors) and Carson Wilhorn (Necedah, Wis./Necedah) made it in the top 5 for shot put. Pierce led with a heave of 13.82 meters, while Wilhorn garnered fifth with a mark of 12.92 meters.
  • The 4x800-meter relay tandem of Maverick Hoogland (Catawba, Wis./Phillips), Ben Plackner (Bovey, Minn./Greenway), Dominick Meisner (Bloomer, Wis./Bloomer) and Dylan Uitto (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) took home first place with a time of 8:22.03.
 
The Yellowjackets return for day two Saturday, with the first events beginning at 11 a.m. at SCCU Stadium.
