SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Yellowjacket volleyball team returned home Friday to open up Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play on a high note, taking on Northwestern. Both teams entered the match with an 8-2 overall record, and at the end of the night, the Eagles came out with a 3-0 victory inside the Mertz.
Match Notes
- Both the Eagles and Yellowjackets traded blows early in the first, but an ultimate seven-point rally saw the 'Jackets behind 13-4. Melissa Hoff (Holmen, Wis./Holmen) and Makenna Hohbein (Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford) logged kills to commence the set, but Aspen Gentele (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria) and Kyndra Peterson (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale) would follow.
- UWS came within five at 17-12, but the Eagles regained control and came away with a 25-17 win in the first.
- The 'Jackets took an advantage in set two, courtesy of a handful of Northwestern miscues. - Kate Jamtgaard (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) would join the kill party midway through the set and other teammates would follow. Towards the end of set two, the Eagles saw an opening and bunched together four rallies of two straight points, giving them a 25-21 win in the third and completing the sweep.
