RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Yellowjacket women's tennis squad opened the fall 2026 season Saturday, taking on Wartburg College and UW-River Falls. In the first match of the day, the 'Jackets lost a close 4-3 contest with the Knights before coming out on the other side of a 4-3 decision with UW-River Falls, salvaging a split on the day.
Match One Notes
- The 'Jackets dropped the doubles point versus the Knights, as Elif Oezen (Rheda-Wiedenbrueck, Germany/Einstein Gymnasium) and Claudia Curtis (Hartland, Wis./Lake Mills) fell 7-5 in the top spot. The duos of Kate Jonas (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) and Emma LaPlante (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) (6-3), alongside Claire Lampi (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) and Avery Albrecht (Montevideo, Minn./Montevideo) (6-4) dropped their doubles bouts.
- Curtis won the tiebreaker at No. 1 singles by a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) decision.
- Oezen, competing in the No. 2 singles slot, won 6-3, 6-0 over Brooke Bloom.
- Jonas won her bout at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2 versus Lily Schreckengast.
- Kimber fell 6-3, 6-3 at the fourth slot, while Albrecht suffered a 7-5, 6-1 loss at No. 5 singles. Rounding out the 'Jackets was LaPlante, falling to Kaitlyn Olson 6-4, 6-4.
Match Two Notes
- Superior swept all three doubles matches. Curtis and Oezen took down their Falcon counterparts 6-1, while Jonas and LaPlante took down Makenna Sanders and Emma Yanish 6-2.
- In the third doubles slot, Albrecht and Lampi won 6-4.
- After a pair of tiebreakers, Curtis defeated Brooke Lindeman 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-4) at the top singles position. Oezen would follow with set scores of 6-1, 6-4.
- Jonas won a late tiebreaker to defeat Sanders 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) at the third position.
- Kimber would drop a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Yanish, while Albrecht fell in a tiebreaker 1-6, 6-1, 0-1 (4-10) at No. 5 singles.
- LaPlante fell to Jaimey Jessen Olson 6-3, 6-3 in the final singles position.
The Yellowjackets are back in action next Saturday where they take on UW-Stevens Point and Minnesota Duluth at home. First serve with the Pointers is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Yellowjacket Tennis Complex.
