The Yellowjacket women's hockey team took a queue from Yogi Berra on Saturday, experiencing "deja vu all over again."  Saturday's matinee at Finlandia followed a pattern made familiar in Friday's series opener - a goal in the first, the game blown open in the second and a lopsided win in the end.  The Yellowjackets got goals from five different players and another stellar goaltending performance from reigning NCHA Player of the Week Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate), cruising to a 6-0 win and a series sweep this weekend in Hancock, Mich.

The Yellowjackets opened the scoring at 11:06 of the first period when Michigan-native Kaiti Graham (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg) converted, scoring her third of the season to give the Yellowjackets the lead.  The eventual-game winning goal was set up by Alison Shrift (Traverse City, Mich./West High School) and Kelsey Firkus (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Chilliwack Senior Secondary).

In the second period jumped out early to stretch the lead.  At 5:59 Shrift, another Michigan native, scored her third goal of the year to make it a 2-0 score.  Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area) would add an even-strength goal minutes later to make it 3-0.  Less than two minutes later it went to 4-0 when Kerry Mayhew (Littleton,Colo./Heritage) scored on the power play, her fourth goal of the season.  Another power play goal by Ashlee Olson (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) made it 5-0 before the second period came to a close.

The Yellowjackets put their collective foot on the gas in the third period, outshooting the Lions 14-1 and adding another power play goal for good measure.  At 10:09 Schultz scored her second of the game, and team-leading ninth of the season, to make the final score 6-0.

Schultz added an assist in the game for a three-point afternoon.  In addition to her goal, Graham also had a pair of assists and sophomore Sheryl Kaskiw (Souris, Manitoba/Souris Collegiate) had three assists to lead the Yellowjacket offense.

Peters was forced to make just nine saves in the game, improving her record on the year to 3-2-1 and chalking up her first shutout of the season.  Ashley Pavlish made 34 saves in the losing effort for Finlandia. 

For the game the Yellowjackets took just two penalties for four minutes, while Finlandia took four for eight minutes.  The Yellowjackets were 3-4 on the power play while Finlandia went 0-2.

The Yellowjackets (6-3-2, 5-2-1 NCHA) will close out the 2011 portion of their schedule with a road game on Tuesday, December 13 at Gustavus Adolphus College.  The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m.
