Box Score
Alverno College 5, Yellowjackets 2
The Yellowjackets entered Sunday afternoon's contest hoping to get a confidence boost. What better opponent to get that from than Alverno College? However, the Yellowjackets fell on day two of their southern Wisconsin road trip to Alverno College 5-2.
The tempo was set by the Yellowjackets early in the match. A corner kick by Rachel Wallace (Anaheim, Calif./Magnolia) found the foot of Katelyn Adams (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors), who finished the job with a shot that fooled Inferno goalkeeper Samantha Robinson to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead at 9:45. The Yellowjackets weren't quite done yet. About two minutes later, Adams dished the ball to Taylor Piechocki (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc ) in the middle of the field where she let a shot go that beat Robinson about 15 yards out to give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead at 11:35.
The fun was over for the Yellowjackets from that point forward as the Inferno responded with five straight goals. Nava Moniriarani was the first to score for Alverno College when she beat Alexandra Paige (Anaheim, Calif./Loara) 20 yards out on the left side to cut the Yellowjacket lead in half to 2-1 at 14:04. The Inferno tied the game 2-2 when Ashleigh Sagat took control of Elizabeth Terrones' deflected shot and put one of her own home at 36:52. Neysel Powell gave the Inferno a 3-2 lead at 54:23 when she fired a shot from ten yards out in the middle of the field.
Moniriarani continued her monster game when she closed out the scoring with two goals to give herself a hat trick. Her first goal was off a deflection of a Yellowjacket player about ten yards out where she put a shot to the back of the net to widen the Inferno lead to 4-2 at 66:52. She put the icing on the cake at 70:55 for the Inferno with a shot about 30 yards out to make the score 5-2.
Paige finished the game with ten saves while Robinson only needed to stop one shot for the Inferno.
The Yellowjackets (3-13-1, 0-7 WIAC) will return to action on Wednesday, October 23 when they travel to UW-Eau Claire to take on the Blugolds. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
