Box Score

Yellowjackets 3, UW-Eau Claire 0

In a rare home-and-home series, the Yellowjackets and Blugolds came to Wessman Arena on Saturday night after skating to a 2-2 tie in Eau Claire.  More bounces went the Yellowjackets' way on this given contest as they came out on top with a 3-0 win over UW-Eau Claire.

The Yellowjackets turned on the jets in the second period after a first period that saw no scoring.  All of the offense in the game came in a second period that saw the Yellowjackets blast 18 shots on goal.  It all started when Yellowjacket goaltender Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) took control of the puck and flicked it along the boards and eventually found Karen Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/Steinbach Regional Secondary).  Larson skated up and found Kerry Mayhew (Littleton,Colo./Heritage) in front of the net, who put a shot past Blugold goaltender Paige Turner at 5:10 of the second period to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead.

Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/) built on that three minutes later when she took control of the puck behind the net.  She skated up in front of the net and flicked a shot past Turner to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 2-0 at 8:06 of the second period.  Mayhew closed out the scoring for the Yellowjackets at 19:50 of the second period on a wrist shot from the bottom of the left circle that snuck to the back of the net to make the score 3-0.

Peters finished with 15 saves for the Yellowjackets while Turner clocked in with 30 saves for the Blugolds.

The Yellowjackets (4-0-2, 1-0-1 WIAC) will travel to UW-Stevens Point on Fri. Nov. 22.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
