Box Score
UW-Stevens Point 2, Yellowjackets 1
A late goal by UW-Stevens Point dooms the Yellowjackets as they fall to the Pointers by a score of 2-1.
Both teams used the first period to get the juices flowing a bit as no scoring occurred. The second period proved to be a different story as both teams traded goals. The Pointers struck first when Jamie Ertl took a feed from Rachel Reynard and put a shot past Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) to give the Pointers a 1-0 lead at 7:12 of the second period.
The Yellowjackets answered when Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area) found Karen Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/Steinbach Regional Secondary) in front of the net. Larson finished the job with a wrist shot that Pointer goaltender Janna Beilke-Skoug couldn't handle to tie the game at a goal a piece at 15:34 of the second period.
The Yellowjackets have answered the bell at the most critical times all season, but it was UW-Stevens Point who came up big. That moment came at 5:18 of the third period when Kendall Nelson buried a goal to give the Pointers a 2-1 lead and eventual victory. Ava Plamondon and Cassandra Salmen were credited with the assists on the play for the Pointers. The Pointers outshot the Yellowjackets 35-20 to finish the game.Â
Peters finished with 33 saves for the Yellowjackets while Beilke-Skoug clocked in with 19 saves for the Pointers.
The Yellowjackets (4-1-2, 1-1-1 WIAC) will look for revenge against UW-Stevens Point tomorrow, Nov. 23. Game time is set for 2:05 p.m.
