Box Score

Yellowjackets 2, Marian 2 (OT)

Coming off of last night's shutout at the hands of the Yellowjackets, the Marian women's hockey team showed some intestinal fortitude on Saturday. Twice the in the game the Yellowjackets grabbed the lead, and twice Marian answered in short order as the teams played to a 2-2 draw at the Blue Line Ice Center in Fond du Lac, Wis.

The Yellowjackets opened the scoring at 5:22 of the first period when team scoring leader Dani Schultz (Morris, Minn./Morris Area), on an assist from Hayley Epema (Crookston, Minn./Crookston) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season to make it 1-0 at 5:22 of the first period.

Marian ansered quickly when Sarah Bier scored her second of the year at 9:29 of the period to pull the Sabres even.

Things stayed that way until the later stages of the third period. At 14:45 Kerry Mayhew (Littleton,Colo./Heritage) set up Caitlyn Hunt (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) and she scored her first goal of the season to give the Yellowjackets their second lead of the game at 2-1. But just as they did the first time Marian answered in short order - just 14 seconds to be exact. Off of the ensuing face-off Kaitlyn Johnson beat Yellowjacket goaltender Shanley Peters (Gnadenthal, Manitoba/Garden Valley Collegiate) to score on the power play and again even the score.

The game stayed tied and the teams headed for overtime. There, the Yellowjackets applied serious pressure and outshot the Sabres 5-0, but Marian goaltender Amanda Alexander was up to the challenge and made sure the score stayed at 2-2.

Peters finished the game with 14 saves, while Alexander starred for Marian, making 45 stops on the day.

The Yellowjackets took five penalties for 10 minutes, while Marian took four for eight minutes. The Yellowjackets were 0-for-4 on the power play while Marian was 1-for-5.

The Yellowjackets (7-2-3, 2-2-2 WIAC) are now off until January 4 when they travel to Hancock, Mich. to take on Finlandia University. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Central time.
