Box Score

After spoiling Gustavus Adolphus' perfect record on Tuesday night, the Yellowjackets had no excuses coming into this contest.  After spoiling a perfect record at this point in the season, the Yellowjackets knew they were capable of playing with any team in the country.  They carried over Tuesday night's strong play into NCHA play, defeating UW-Stevens Point 4-2.

The Yellowjackets carved the Pointers up from the drop of the puck as they scored the first four goals of the night.  Alexis Reid (Dryden, Ontario/Dryden) provided the Yellowjackets with a spark on special teams when she skated from the top of the left circle and fired a wrist shot that beat Pointer goaltender Hillary Drake to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead.  Reid's power play goal came at 9:25 of the first period.  The power play continued to not let down the Yellowjackets when Bailey Lane (Armada, Mich./Armada) juked out a few defenders in front of the net after taking a pass from Ashley Martin (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior).  Lane would put the exclamation point on the power play with a goal at 11:11 of the second period to make the score 2-0.

The women in black and yellow still had plenty of fight in them as they exploded for two more goals in the second period.  Kiara De Kezel (Deloraine, Manitoba/Deloraine) led that fight with a shot that caught Drake off guard that gave the Yellowjackets a 3-0 at 13:47 of the second period.  Drake was yanked in net in favor of Janna Beilke-Skoug after the goal, but it wouldn't be enough to save the Pointers.  Lynne Larson (Blumenort, Manitoba/) tagged Beilke-Skoug with a goal at 14:27 of the second period to extend the Yellowjacket lead to 4-0.

The Pointers answered with two goals of their own in the third period.  Megan Nickelson notched a power play goal at 12:17 of the third period to make the score 4-1.  Hailey Rock provided life for the Pointers on a goal with :10 left in the third period to make the score 4-2.

Megan Leikkari (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Westgate CV&I) stopped 22 shots for the Yellowjackets while Drake and Beilke-Skoug teamed up to make 28 saves for the Pointers.

The Yellowjackets (13-7-2, 9-6-1 NCHA) will look to gain ground in the NCHA standings as they eye a sweep of UW-Stevens Point tomorrow afternoon (Feb. 9th).  Game time is at 2:30 p.m.
