The Yellowjacket volleyball team went on the road Wednesday looking to get back in the win column following last Saturday's loss to Gustavus Adolphus. Facing UW-River Falls, the Yellowjackets had to feel confident given that the two teams have already faced each other once this year in a match the Yellowjackets won 3-0. Unfortunately, things turned out quite differently for the Yellowjackets this time as the Falcons swept the match 3-0.

The first set played out very evenly. Both teams were evenly matched throughout the set. The Falcons prevailed, as they took the first set 25-22 to go up 1-0. Both teams were very successful on the attack in the set, with the Yellowjackets finishing the set with a .321 team attack percentage and the Falcons finishing the set with a .314.

The second set played out very similar to the first. The set could have gone either way with both teams once again showing how evenly matched they were. As it was in the first set, the Falcons were able to break away to secure the set 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead.

UW-River Falls carried the third set from wire-to-wire, as they finished the set with a .765 team attack percentage en route to a 3-0 victory.

The Yellowjackets were paced offensively by Stephanie Bandelin (Esko, Minn./Esko), who had 10 kills with a .370 attack percentage. Bandelin also contributed 8 digs. Emily VerWay (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) had 17 set assists to lead the Yellowjackets. Karlie Leif (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) added 9 digs defensively, which lead the team.

The Yellowjackets (15-9, 4-1 UMAC) next matches will be Friday, October 16 when they travel to St. Paul, Minn. to take on Macalester College and Luther College at the St. Kate's Invite. Game times are set for 3:00 p.m and 5:00 p.m.
